The Bank Controller serves as a strategic partner to the executive team, overseeing the entire accounting function of a small community bank. This role is pivotal in maintaining the integrity of financial operations, ensuring robust control systems, and driving accurate transaction processing. As a key member of the Asset Liability Committee (ALCO) and the Operations, Compliance, and IT Committee, the Controller interacts across the organization to align financial strategy with operational goals.
The day-to-day rhythm involves preparing comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including corporate annual reports, Call Reports, and ALCO Committee Reports. The Controller ensures the General Ledger chart of accounts is maintained with precision, reviewing income and expense entries for appropriateness and guaranteeing all month-end close entries are completed on time. Beyond standard accounting, the role encompasses the management of payroll and insurance programs, including the maintenance of the ADP system and accrual tracking.
A significant portion of the role focuses on liquidity and asset-liability management. The Controller monitors daily cash management, prepares liquidity forecasts, and ensures sufficient lines of credit are in place to meet forecasted needs. Using the Vantage ALM system, the role oversees investment securities entries, deposit trends, and capital accounts. The position also requires managing fixed assets depreciation, prepaid and accrued expenses, and resolving outstanding suspense items older than 90 days.
This position requires close collaboration with the executive team during the preparation of the annual budget and audits. The Controller acts as a primary liaison for external and internal auditors and regulators during bank examinations, ensuring full compliance and transparency. The role demands a high degree of accuracy in managing accounts payable, USE taxes, IRS reporting, and vendor relationships.
We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where financial expertise drives community growth. Candidates who thrive in collaborative, cross-functional settings and are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of financial stewardship are encouraged to apply.
