About the Role
The Coil Prep Operator is a heavy assembly position central to the manufacturing of high-voltage power transformers. This role focuses on the critical subprocess of processing and pressing coil windings, ensuring they meet exacting standards for Medium Power, Large Power, and Extra High Voltage applications. Operators will master specialized techniques, including Oil Impregnation via Vapor Phase processes (using Kerosene or Vapor Phase) and Iso-Static Pressing. The position demands a blend of technical precision and physical capability, requiring the operation of Dake coil presses, overhead cranes, and forklifts to upend, align, size, and deliver complex components.
Day in the Life
Your work will involve a dynamic mix of individual focus and team collaboration. You will interpret complex technical drawings and bills of materials to guide the assembly of spacer columns, end assemblies, and coil collars. Daily tasks include loading coils into vapor phase chambers, utilizing air bearing sleigh pallets for iso-static pressing, and performing rigorous inspections to verify dimensions, tolerances, and pressures. The role requires a strong commitment to safety and craftsmanship, often involving bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs repeatedly. You will also maintain a clean and organized workspace (5S), perform minor equipment repairs, and assist in training new team members.
Working Environment
This position is based in a large-scale manufacturing facility dedicated to High-Voltage Power Transformers. The environment is active and industrial, requiring operators to be comfortable standing for extended shifts, working at heights up to 12 feet, and navigating the main plant with powered industrial vehicles. Success in this role relies on a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and the ability to follow strict safety protocols and contamination control procedures.
