The Coding Integrity Specialist serves a unique dual function within the Revenue Integrity and Education Department at OU Health. This position bridges the gap between clinical documentation and compliance by acting as both an educator and an auditor. You will work directly with physicians and team members to clarify coding processes and practices while simultaneously auditing records to ensure accuracy and regulatory adherence.
Success in this role requires the ability to see the 'big picture' across a broad spectrum of healthcare areas. You will review and evaluate hospital outpatient medical record documentation to assign, sequence, edit, and validate ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT codes. Your work ensures that coding guidelines are applied consistently across various patient types, including Same Day Surgery, Observation, Wound Care, Outpatient Cardiac Cath, and, as needed, Emergency Department and Provider Office Visits.
Beyond technical code assignment, you will initiate and validate physician queries in compliance with company policy, maintain established productivity and accuracy standards, and ensure your coding knowledge remains current through continuous review of official data quality standards and clinical resources.
