As a Class Aide with Disability Responsibilities, you will serve as a vital support system within our Head Start classroom, providing dedicated one-on-one attention to children with special needs. Your primary mission is to ensure every child receives the additional daily assistance required to thrive in an educational environment. Working closely alongside the teacher and teacher aide, you will help foster a nurturing, inclusive, and safe space for all enrolled children.
Your day is defined by active engagement and constant vigilance. You will accompany assigned children through every aspect of their school experience, including classroom activities, bathroom breaks, mealtimes, playground time, and field trips. A key part of your role involves being the bridge between the center and families; you will be the first and last contact of the day for parents, relaying messages and maintaining positive, constructive communication.
Safety and compliance are central to your work. You will ensure that emergency supplies are properly maintained and that communication systems are tested regularly. You will also act as a mandated reporter for Child Abuse and Neglect, adhering strictly to agency policies. The role requires physical stamina, as you may need to lift heavy items, climb into school buses, and spend significant time on the floor or in child-sized chairs to interact with students.
Candidates selected for this position must successfully complete a comprehensive background check, including screens for child abuse and neglect, as well as drug testing. Additionally, you are required to obtain an initial medical exam and TB assessment within 30 days of employment, with follow-ups required every five years thereafter.
We are committed to maintaining a workplace that promotes a positive image for our staff, parents, agency, and community. We value emotional maturity, patience, flexibility, and a deep respect for children and adults. All staff are expected to maintain good personal hygiene and possess the physical and mental health necessary to fulfill responsibilities under pressure, including during emergencies.
