The Lead Teacher serves as the cornerstone of our Head Start Center, responsible for orchestrating the fiscal, physical, and operational aspects of the classroom environment. This role is dedicated to ensuring that every child and family receives the comprehensive services and support essential for early development. You will set up engaging classrooms and implement educational programs that align with the Head Start mission, acting as the primary advocate for the well-being of the children in your care.
Your day is a dynamic blend of direct child interaction, curriculum leadership, and community partnership. You will direct classroom activities with a focus on health, safety, and the emotional well-being of the children. Beyond the classroom walls, you will conduct home visits to help families understand program goals and their vital role in their child's development. You will also serve as the program's first and last point of contact for parents, fostering positive relationships and facilitating communication between families and staff.
A significant portion of your time involves observing and documenting each child's developmental progress, individualizing learning plans to meet specific strengths and needs, and administering required health and developmental screenings. You will also manage the center's facilities and supplies, ensuring a clean, sanitary, and safe environment. As a mandated reporter, you will uphold the highest standards of child safety, maintaining emergency supplies and adhering strictly to abuse and neglect reporting policies.
We are committed to a culture of professionalism, emotional maturity, and respect for both children and adults. We value flexibility, patience, and the ability to work effectively under pressure, including during emergencies. Our team collaborates closely with administrative staff, community agencies, and parent committees to create a supportive network for families. We believe in continuous learning and encourage participation in training and educational opportunities to maintain high standards in early childhood education.
Candidates must possess an Associate's degree in child development, early childhood education, or a related field, along with an Infant/Toddler CDA credential. Successful applicants will undergo a comprehensive screening process, including background checks, child abuse/neglect screens, and drug testing. A medical exam and TB assessment are required within 30 days of employment.
Interested candidates should submit their application materials to the Professional Development Manager or Early Head Start Site Supervisor. We look for individuals who demonstrate a positive image, strong verbal communication skills, and the physical ability to fulfill the demands of the role, including lifting and frequent movement.
We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability. Our program strives to reflect the diverse communities we serve.
