About the Role
This opportunity is designed for engineers who are preparing for their PE or are newly licensed and ready to transition from "supporting" projects to truly leading them. As a Civil Project Engineer in our Bismarck, ND office, you will carry projects from early due diligence and feasibility through final design and construction closeout.
Your day will involve coordinating with municipalities and agencies, shaping construction documents, and designing grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater systems that work in the real world. You will interact directly with clients and permitting agencies, leading conversations rather than just performing calculations. We trust our engineers to lead project strategy and coordinate internal and external design teams to complete integrated projects.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleCoordinate with municipalities, agencies, and surveyors to support entitlements and permitting
- check_circleOversee and prepare construction documents, details, specifications, and cost estimates
- check_circleDevelop site/civil design deliverables including grading, drainage, utilities, and erosion control
- check_circleCoordinate internal and external design team members to complete integrated projects
- check_circleProvide leadership, training, and mentoring to less experienced engineers and team members
- check_circlePerform quality reviews for other engineers and designers
- check_circleDevelop and improve engineering processes, design tools, and implement innovative technology
- check_circleAttend design review meetings and interact directly with clients
- check_circleMake periodic visits to construction sites and support construction administration activities
Requirements
- verifiedBachelor's degree in civil engineering
- verified5+ years of relevant land development/site-civil experience
- verifiedProfessional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure within 6 months
- verifiedProficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- verifiedValid driver's license
- verifiedEligibility to work in the United States
Nice to Have
Experience preparing hydrology/hydraulic models and stormwater design (e.g., HydroCAD). Experience with permitting and agency coordination in the upper Midwest. Experience with cost estimating and/or construction administration. Demonstrated mentoring/technical leadership experience.
