San Juan County is seeking a Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecuting Attorney to lead the prosecution of all criminal cases within the district, superior, and juvenile courts. This pivotal role exists to ensure the fair and effective administration of justice by overseeing the investigation, preparation, and prosecution of cases, while also serving as a key resource for law enforcement training on substantive, procedural, and evidentiary laws.
In this position, you will act as the primary representative of the state in all criminal court proceedings, from pretrial hearings to appellate arguments. The role involves a dynamic day-to-day rhythm that includes reviewing police reports for legal sufficiency, conducting plea negotiations, drafting complex legal memoranda, and representing the county in violation hearings. Beyond courtroom advocacy, you will supervise legal assistants and victim advocates, ensuring the rights of survivors and witnesses are protected while maintaining the highest standards of ethics and professionalism as a public employee.
