As a Pharmacy Technician at Walgreens, you play a vital role in supporting the pharmacist and ensuring the pharmacy department operates smoothly and safely. You will assist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision, adhering to all state, federal, and company policies. Your work is essential to maintaining the integrity of the prescription process, from entering patient information to verifying medications and managing inventory.
This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about healthcare and customer service. You will be the face of the pharmacy for many patients, delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience by greeting customers, resolving issues, and offering proactive assistance. Whether you are processing prescriptions, handling cash registers, or assisting with clinical services like blood sample collection, your attention to detail and commitment to safety are paramount.
Your day involves a dynamic mix of clinical support and operational tasks. You will utilize pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, ensuring accuracy in every entry. You may assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, while strictly checking for possible interactions. If you hold PTCB certification, you will also have the opportunity to coach other technicians and cashiers on system operations.
Customer interaction is a core part of your responsibilities. You will engage with patients to answer questions, locate over-the-counter products, and build strong relationships with our most valuable customers. You will also handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's personal attention, including those to physicians, and process manual claims for third-party prescription services efficiently.
Beyond the counter, you will support the pharmacy's operational health by managing inventory, ordering and unpacking shipments, and maintaining a clean, orderly, and well-stocked environment. You may also assist in developing relationships with the local medical community through outreach to health groups and providers.
To join our team, candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours. We encourage you to earn and maintain PTCB certification through our designated training program or state-required certification, as this is a condition for promotion to a Senior Technician role. We value continuous learning and expect all team members to attend training and complete required PPLs to maintain their knowledge of the latest healthcare developments.
