The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting in providing clinical care to select patients under the supervision of a professional nurse or licensed medical practitioner, while also providing clerical office assistance. This role is vital to ensuring the smooth operation of patient care and administrative workflows within our facilities.
As a Certified Medical Assistant at Hackensack Meridian Health, your day involves a dynamic blend of clinical and administrative support. You will prepare exam and treatment rooms, ensuring supplies and instruments are ready for patient visits. You will assist patients with their examinations and take vital signs, recording them accurately in medical charts.
You will utilize specialized equipment to perform procedures such as EKGs, PFTs, Audiometry, and various lab tests like UDS, BAT, and Phlebotomy, adhering to strict performance evaluation checklists. Beyond clinical duties, you will maintain patient records, assist with collections and billing procedures, and manage office systems using computer software.
A key part of your role is identifying the needs of the patient population served. You will modify and deliver care specific to those needs, considering factors such as age, culture, language, and physical impairments. This includes communicating effectively with patients, parents, and primary caregivers at their appropriate developmental and educational levels. You will also identify and respond to issues of confidentiality and adhere to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
