The Security Officer serves as a vital frontline resource for campus safety, specifically focused on the protection of students and vehicles within student parking areas. Reporting directly to the Chief of Police, this nonexempt position operates under general supervision to ensure a secure environment that supports the educational mission of the district.
Your day involves active monitoring of student behavior and the enforcement of school rules regarding conduct and vehicle operation. You will be the first point of contact for resolving conflicts or confrontations between students, escalating disturbances to the principal or assistant principal when necessary. A significant portion of your time is dedicated to controlling traffic and parking on campus grounds, including registering student vehicles and maintaining accurate records.
You will work cooperatively with office personnel to address vehicle issues, such as improper parking or lights left on, and act as a guide for authorized visitors. In the event of an emergency, you are responsible for notifying police, fire departments, or other appropriate authorities immediately. The role requires the ability to exercise professional judgment, maintain confidentiality, and participate in staff development training to continuously improve job performance.
This position is primarily performed outdoors in varying climate conditions. You will be exposed to extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and vehicle exhaust. The role demands physical readiness, including the ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts by others, such as restraining students involved in altercations. Continuous walking, standing, and climbing are required, along with the ability to operate a motor vehicle and perform moderate to heavy lifting.
