The Buyer III serves as a vital component of the City of Amarillo Purchasing Department, executing a diverse range of functions within the public procurement lifecycle. Operating under general supervision, this role is primarily responsible for the preparation, negotiation, and administration of municipal leases, service agreements, and formal contracts. The incumbent actively manages the competitive bidding process for various goods and services, ensuring all acquisitions align with departmental standards and statutory requirements.
In this capacity, you will support the Senior Buyer in performing foundational professional purchasing duties while acting as a resource for internal departments. Your day-to-day involves facilitating formal bid processes, drafting and reviewing legally binding agreements to protect the City's interests, and conducting objective vendor evaluations. You will also provide technical training on procurement software and policies, ensuring end-users are equipped to navigate the system effectively. The role requires balancing routine assignments with the agility to handle complex, high-volume projects, including managing a portfolio of over 100 agreements and ensuring strict adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.
