About the Role
This position operates LCTA vehicles over predetermined routes within the Luzerne County service area. The primary mission is to provide safe, efficient transportation and essential assistance to local residents. As a safety-sensitive role, drivers are subject to drug testing, including random screens, in strict accordance with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations.
Day in the Life
Drivers follow daily schedules as routed and dispatched, maintaining constant awareness of traffic and road conditions. The role requires operating the vehicle with maximum safety for passengers while collecting fares and issuing tickets. Drivers must ensure the bus interior remains clean and orderly, fostering a polite and safe atmosphere for all riders.
A key aspect of the position is assisting passengers in accordance with ADA rules and regulations. This includes helping individuals with mobility devices, such as wheelchairs, which may involve securing them to the floor, transporting passengers, and assisting with stairs or inclines. Drivers maintain radio or phone contact with dispatchers to report schedule changes, weather conditions, or vehicle issues, seeking management approval before any route deviations.
