The Building Manager serves as the primary point of contact for all tenant-occupied spaces within Building 50, a biomedical research laboratory facility on the NIH's Bethesda campus. Constructed in 2001, this 200,000-square-foot building houses seven institutes and is supported by an additional 240,000 square feet of interstitial and facility MEP spaces. The role exists to optimize building operations by documenting repairs, improvements, and deficiencies while collaborating with occupants and the Office of Research Facilities (ORF).
This position requires a holistic approach to building management, working closely with scientific and administrative occupants, facilities maintenance teams, external contractors, and service providers. The Building Manager will lead projects ranging from building-wide systems upgrades to enhancements of common space furniture, fixtures, and equipment. Success in this role involves building strong communities, resourcefully seeking information, and communicating clearly with all stakeholders.
The Building Manager will manage a diverse ecosystem of biomedical research operations, including bulk gas tank operations, liquid nitrogen cold storage rooms, and critical equipment like autoclaves and cold rooms. The role demands a deep understanding of laboratory operations and building systems to ensure safety, usability, and the physical condition of the property. Collaboration is key, with regular coordination through monthly facilities meetings and joint oversight with the NIH Division of Occupational Health and Safety.
Qualified applicants will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or other characteristics protected by law.
