As a Border Patrol Agent (BPA), you will be a Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) responsible for detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws. Your day-to-day duties involve inspecting documents and possessions, interpreting tracks and physical evidence of illegal entry, and performing various checks including farm, building, traffic, and city patrols.
You will patrol the international boundary and coastal waterways using a diverse array of government assets, including vehicles, horses, vessels, off-road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles. The role requires maintaining surveillance from covert positions, including night operations with infrared scopes, and apprehending smugglers and violators of federal laws.
This is a career ladder position with grade level progression from GL-9 to GS-11 to GS-12. Agents are eligible for promotion to the next higher grade level without re-applying once they successfully complete 52 weeks in the lower grade level.
Note: Duty assignments are determined at the time of offer based on operational needs and may include prioritized locations in the Southwest Border. Relocation may be required. While you may select preferred locations from a list of mission-critical stations, assignments may not align with first-choice preferences.
