This is a full-time, career Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) position designed for individuals passionate about public safety. Whether your background is in military police units or state and local law enforcement, you will have the chance to apply your skills in a dynamic environment. The role involves detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws, preventing the entry of aliens and smugglers through surveillance, and interpreting physical evidence of illegal entry.
Day-to-day operations are diverse and demanding, ranging from farm and building checks to patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways. Agents utilize a variety of government assets, including vehicles, horses, vessels, off-road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles. The work often requires maintaining covert positions, using infrared scopes for night operations, and making rapid, sound judgments in high-stakes situations.
Candidates selected for this position will undergo an intensive selection process involving a review of resumes, supporting documents, and the BPA Entrance Exam. Successful applicants will be detailed to the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, for approximately six months of instruction. This training covers immigration and nationality laws, law enforcement tactics, driver training, physical techniques, firearms proficiency, and Spanish language acquisition.

These assignments may not align with a candidate's first-choice preferences, and relocation may be required. Candidates are asked to select preferred locations from a list of mission-critical stations across various sectors, including Big Bend, Buffalo, Del Rio, El Paso, El Centro, Grand Forks, Havre, Houlton, Laredo, Rio Grande Valley, San Diego, Spokane, Swanton, Tucson, and Yuma.
