This is a full-time, career Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) position designed for individuals who love protecting their community and are seeking a change of scenery. Whether your background is in military police units or state and local law enforcement, your prior experience may qualify you for higher-graded opportunities (GL-9 or GS-11). You will be part of a dynamic team where your day-to-day work involves detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws, maintaining surveillance from covert positions, and interpreting physical evidence of illegal entry. The role requires patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using a variety of assets, including vehicles, horses, vessels, and off-road equipment, to accomplish the USBP mission.

Duty assignments are determined at the time of offer based on operational needs and may include prioritized locations along the Southwest Border. While candidates may select preferred mission-critical locations, relocation may be required, and assignments may not align with first-choice preferences. The agency fosters a culture of excellence where agents undergo approximately six months of intensive instruction at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, covering immigration laws, firearms, physical techniques, and language proficiency.
