This is a full-time, career Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) position designed for individuals who love protecting their community and are looking for a change of scenery. Whether your background is in military police units or state and local law enforcement, you will work alongside highly trained professionals to perform critical duties. These include detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws, maintaining surveillance from covert positions, interpreting tracks and physical evidence, and patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using a variety of government assets.
The role is dynamic and demanding, requiring the ability to make prompt decisions, exercise sound judgment in the use of firearms, and interact effectively with the public. Agents undergo approximately six months of intensive instruction at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, covering immigration laws, law enforcement operations, physical techniques, and firearms proficiency. Proficiency in Spanish is a key component of the mission, with training provided to ensure agents can communicate effectively in the field.

U.S. Border Patrol determines duty assignments at the time of offer based on operational needs, which may include prioritized locations along the Southwest Border. These assignments may or may not align with a candidate's first-choice preferences, and relocation is often required. Agents may be assigned to mission-critical sectors ranging from Big Bend and Buffalo to El Paso, Tucson, and Yuma.
