This is a full-time, career Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) position designed for individuals who love protecting their community and are ready for a change of scenery. Whether your background is in military police or state and local law enforcement, you will work alongside highly trained professionals to enforce immigration and customs laws.
Your day-to-day mission involves detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating laws, maintaining surveillance from covert positions, and interpreting physical evidence of illegal entry. You will patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using a variety of assets, including vehicles, horses, vessels, and off-road equipment. This is a career ladder position with progression opportunities from GL-9 to GS-11 and beyond.

Candidates are evaluated based on their resume, supporting documents, and the BPA Entrance Exam. Successful applicants will be detailed to the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, for approximately six months of intensive instruction covering immigration laws, firearms, physical techniques, and Spanish language proficiency.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection determines duty assignments at the time of offer based on operational needs. Assignments may include prioritized locations along the Southwest Border, such as Sierra Blanca, TX; Presidio, TX; and Lordsburg, NM. Candidates should be prepared for the possibility that their first-choice preference may not align with the operational needs of the agency, and relocation may be required.
