About the Role

This is a full-time, career Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) position designed for individuals who love protecting their community and are looking for a change of scenery. Whether you gained your experience as part of a military police unit or within a state or local law enforcement organization, you will have the chance to make a significant impact. The role involves detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws, preventing and apprehending smugglers, and interpreting physical evidence of illegal entry.

Day-to-day operations are diverse and dynamic, ranging from covert surveillance and night operations using infrared scopes to patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways. Agents utilize a variety of government assets, including vehicles, horses, vessels, ATVs, and snowmobiles, to accomplish the mission. The position is a career ladder role with progression from GL-9 to GS-11 and beyond, offering job stability and the chance to work in mission-critical locations across the Southwest Border and other strategic areas.

Selection is based on a review of your resume, supporting documents, and performance on the BPA Entrance Exam. Successful candidates will be detailed to the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, for approximately six months of intensive instruction covering immigration laws, law enforcement tactics, firearms, and physical techniques. Note that duty assignments are determined at the time of offer based on operational needs and may include prioritized locations; relocation may be required.
