This is a full-time, career Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) position designed for individuals passionate about public safety. The role involves detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws, preventing and apprehending smugglers, and interpreting physical evidence of illegal entry.
Day-to-day operations are diverse and demanding, ranging from covert surveillance and infrared night operations to patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels, and off-road equipment. Agents perform farm checks, building checks, and traffic patrols, utilizing intelligence and complex technology to track criminal activity and threats to the nation. The position is a career ladder role, offering progression from GL-9 to GS-11 and beyond upon successful completion of training and probationary periods.

Duty assignments are determined at the time of offer based on operational needs and may include prioritized locations along the Southwest Border. While candidates can select preferred mission-critical locations, assignments may not align with first-choice preferences, and relocation may be required.
