As an Entry-Level Border Patrol Agent (BPA), you will join a career Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) team in a full-time, rewarding position. You will be part of a dynamic unit that protects the American people by detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws, inspecting documents, and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers.
Your day-to-day responsibilities involve maintaining surveillance from covert positions, interpreting tracks and physical evidence of illegal entry, and patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways. You will utilize a variety of government assets, including vehicles, horses, vessels, ATVs, and snowmobiles, to accomplish the USBP mission. The selection process is rigorous and comprehensive. After applying through the CBP Talent Network and USAJOBS, candidates are evaluated based on their resume, supporting documents, and the BPA Entrance Exam. Successful candidates will be detailed to the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, for approximately six months of intensive instruction. This training covers immigration and nationality laws, law enforcement operations, driver training, physical techniques, and firearms proficiency. Proficiency in Spanish is required, and training is provided to achieve this.
Duty Assignments: Duty assignments are determined at the time of offer based on operational needs. Assignments may include the Southwest Border and prioritized locations. Relocation is required, and candidates should be aware that duty locations may not align with first-choice preferences.
