The Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service at VA Boston Healthcare System is a collaborative group of 10 experienced pathologists. The service performs over 3,000,000 tests annually and is accredited by the College of American Pathologists, the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Anatomic Pathology Division alone processes approximately 10,000 surgical pathology specimens and 7,000 cytology specimens each year.
Beyond the main West Roxbury location, the service supports outpatient phlebotomy stations in Jamaica Plain, Brockton, and Bedford, MA. It also provides specialized reference laboratory tests—including Immunohistochemistry, Flow Cytometry, Cytopathology, Dermatopathology, and Hematopathology—to seven other sites within New England's Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 1). Additionally, the team delivers Quality Management, Informatics, and Telepathology support for the entire VISN 1 laboratory network.
This full-time Staff Pathologist position offers a dynamic blend of clinical practice, academic engagement, and leadership. You will provide Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology services, conduct case reviews, and attend principal tumor boards. The role includes active participation in teaching, research, and clinical activities co-sponsored by academic affiliates Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston University School of Medicine, and Harvard Medical School. There is also an opportunity to secure an academic appointment at one of these affiliates commensurate with your experience.
