About the Role
As a High School Teacher, you will perform professional work providing teaching services in a specialized subject. Your primary mission is to motivate students to develop skills and achieve their maximum potential within your area of expertise. You will work under the regular supervision of the School Principal to create a class environment favorable to learning.
Day in the Life
Your work involves translating lesson plans into engaging learning experiences that integrate subject area content with technology. You will instruct students in areas of specialization as specified by state law and district regulations, adapting teaching materials to guide and challenge them. A significant part of your role includes establishing standards of behavior, encouraging independent thinking, and facilitating group discussions for critical analysis.
You will be responsible for evaluating student progress, maintaining appropriate records, and preparing progress reports. Communication is key, as you will interact regularly with students, counselors, and parents through conferences. Additionally, you will participate in child study, Individual Education Plan (IEP), and Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP) meetings, as well as curriculum development programs and faculty committees.
Hiring Process
Candidates must be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with the appropriate endorsement. The selection process will focus on verifying this eligibility alongside a thorough knowledge of secondary education principles, effective teaching methodologies, and school division rules.
