The Jewish Board delivers innovative, high-quality, and compassionate mental health and social services to over 45,000 New Yorkers each year. We are unique in serving everyone from infants and their families to children, teens, and adults. We are proud to employ and serve people of all religions, races, cultural backgrounds, gender expressions, and sexual orientations. We are committed to building diverse, equitable, and inclusive teams to help support our mission, and we strongly encourage candidates from historically marginalized backgrounds to apply to work with us.
As a Behavior Intervention Specialist, Level 1, you will be the driving force behind the Positive Approaches Paradigm for individuals with developmental disabilities. In this role, you will design, implement, and monitor Behavior Management Programs, Instructional Goals, and Valued Outcomes across our Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF), Independent Residence Alternatives (IRA), and Community Services such as Day Habilitation. You will manage a caseload of up to 35 individuals, ensuring that every client receives consistent, evidence-based care that aligns with OPWDD and DOH regulations.
Your day will be a dynamic blend of clinical expertise and community engagement. You will travel routinely to units, IRAs, day programs, and the community to interact with residential individuals daily. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to training and mentoring the interdisciplinary team—including Direct Support Professionals, families, and outside providers—on behavior support strategies. You will collaborate closely with psychologists, psychiatrists, and nursing teams to coordinate care, ensuring that behavioral interventions are proactive, least-restrictive, and tailored to each individual's needs.
Candidates selected for an interview will be required to pass NYS OPWDD background checks and Justice Center clearance. Please note that this role requires on-call availability for behavioral emergencies and a commitment to working in person five days a week.
The Jewish Board is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability status. We actively seek to build diverse teams that reflect the communities we serve.
