As a Baggage Handling System Technician, you will operate with minimal direction to ensure the smooth and safe functioning of the airport's baggage infrastructure. Your primary mission is to respond to and correct fault conditions within the BHS, keeping the system running efficiently for travelers. You will be the first line of defense in clearing jams and performing essential maintenance tasks such as sweeping, cleaning, and greasing equipment alongside senior technicians.
This role is critical to the airport's daily operations. You will work in a dynamic environment that includes all areas of the airport property, often navigating around moving machinery, dust, dirt, and varying temperatures. The position requires a high level of situational awareness to identify and correct safety conditions while adhering to strict company procedures and ELS safety programs.
You will be part of a team that values accountability, integrity, and customer focus. Success in this role requires the ability to work under pressure with tight time constraints while maintaining clear communication with colleagues and customers. You must be organized, capable of making sound decisions with available information, and able to build positive relationships with a diverse range of personalities.
The work environment is active and physically demanding. You will frequently stand, walk, climb, and balance, often lifting and moving items between 10 and 50 pounds. The role may involve exposure to noise levels and heights, requiring the consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). A valid driver's license and the ability to maintain an Airport Security badge are essential for navigating the facility and performing duties effectively.
Candidates must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English, and must be able to obtain and maintain an Airport Security badge. The role requires a non-traditional schedule, including weekends and holidays. All selected candidates must complete assigned safety training and comply with the ELS Drug and Alcohol policy.
