As an Automotive Worker, you will serve as a vital part of the maintenance team, ensuring motor vehicles remain operational and safe. This role is designed for individuals who thrive in a hands-on environment, combining technical mechanical skills with a commitment to vehicle longevity. You will work from both verbal and written instructions to diagnose trouble, assess work orders, and determine the necessary repairs for a diverse fleet including automobiles, light trucks, and ATVs.
Your day-to-day involves a wide range of maintenance tasks, from minor services like washing, polishing, and cleaning interiors and exteriors to more complex mechanical work. You will be responsible for checking and replacing batteries, rotating and repairing tires, and performing oil changes and filter replacements. Beyond routine maintenance, you may assist in major overhaul jobs, disassembling and cleaning parts, repairing components such as generators and water pumps, and replacing thermostats or electrical wiring. The role also requires test-driving repaired vehicles to verify performance and safety.
This position demands physical stamina and adaptability. You will perform repairs in various conditions, often working inside on concrete surfaces exposed to drafts, noise, and vehicle fumes, as well as outside under adverse weather conditions. The work frequently requires standing for long periods, bending, stooping, and crawling under vehicles to access tight spaces. You will handle and carry parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, occasionally moving heavier items with assistance or mechanical devices.
The environment can be greasy and dirty, with exposure to dirt, dust, and grease. Safety is paramount; you will be continually exposed to potential hazards such as burns, chemical irritations, shocks, and strains. To mitigate these risks, strict adherence to prescribed safety practices is required, including the use of safety shoes, glasses, and respirators. You must be physically and mentally capable of performing these duties for extended periods.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent, along with two years of experience in vehicle repair and maintenance. Formal technical or vocational automotive mechanical training is required, as is a valid state Driver's license. Additionally, successful candidates must obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance and complete EPA Required Certification Training. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is essential, as is the ability to use computer and office productivity tools.
