This role is dedicated to supporting teachers in delivering a comprehensive educational experience for special education students. Whether in specialized special education classrooms or general education settings, the assistant plays a vital part in managing instructional, clerical, and student life activities to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.
As a Special Education Assistant, you will be the backbone of the classroom, working closely with educators to facilitate daily learning and life skills. The position requires a flexible mindset to adapt to the evolving needs of students, ranging from providing direct tutorial support to managing community-based supervision. Success in this role hinges on a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a genuine desire to see young people thrive.
You will be expected to work independently while maintaining close collaboration with students, staff, and parents. The role involves applying knowledge of child guidance principles and basic instructional techniques to create a supportive environment. Participation in ongoing training provided by the Special Education Department is essential to stay current with best practices.
Positions are scheduled for the school year, with shifts typically occurring between 7:15 AM and 3:30 PM. Exact start and end times may vary depending on the specific needs of the school and the hours allocated to the position.
All positions include paid holidays, paid time off, basic term life insurance, and access to an optional direct primary care plan along with various other supplemental benefits. For roles exceeding 6 hours per day, a public pension is also included.
Candidates must hold a high school diploma or GED. While previous experience working with students with special needs is preferred, the most critical attributes are flexibility, strong tutorial skills, and the ability to relate well with diverse groups.
