As an experienced attorney within the Legal Affairs Department, you will serve as a strategic partner to Parkland Health's managed care operations, supporting both the HMO and the broader health system. This position operates with a high degree of autonomy, providing leader coordination and support rather than direct supervision. While the primary focus is on managed care, you will also extend your expertise to revenue cycle operations and employee benefits.
You will navigate a complex landscape of healthcare business transactions, hospital governance, regulatory investigations, and litigation. From medical malpractice to nonprofit tax matters, you will handle a diverse array of legal and regulatory issues that impact a large public, safety-net academic medical center. Your role involves managing relationships with internal clients, advising the Board of Managers, and overseeing the work of outside counsel and paralegals.
Your work will be dynamic and varied, requiring you to quickly analyze operational information and provide first-line legal advice. You will draft and review governance documents, contracts for clinical services, and complex business arrangements while ensuring compliance with state and federal laws. A significant portion of your time may be dedicated to managing litigation, including investigations, discovery, mediations, and trial proceedings.
You will also serve on system committees, support government relations functions, and maintain a 24/7 on-call rotation to address urgent legal needs. Success in this role requires a willingness to learn new areas of healthcare operations and the ability to adopt emerging technology resources to support an innovative environment.
Parkland Health is an innovative, dynamic academic medical center dedicated to serving the community. We value attorneys who are effective team players, capable of coordinating with colleagues and external partners to achieve optimal outcomes. We seek individuals who are organized, detail-oriented, and possess strong critical thinking and negotiation skills.
We are committed to fostering a positive working environment where employees and management collaborate effectively with vendors, government representatives, and other professionals. We encourage continuous professional development and expect team members to stay abreast of the latest legal developments and industry trends.
Interested candidates must hold a current Texas license to practice law in good standing, or be eligible for "Admission without Examination" based on reciprocity, with the requirement to receive a Texas law license within nine months of hire. Please submit your application through the official Parkland Health careers portal. For specific details regarding the interview process and further inquiries, please refer to the application system or contact the Legal Affairs Department directly.
