The University of Utah's Nuclear Engineering Program (UNEP), part of the John and Marcia Price College of Engineering, is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2026. A successful candidate will join a dynamic and growing program housed in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CVEEN).
CVEEN is one of seven rapidly expanding departments within the College, having experienced 50% growth in tenure-track faculty over the last decade. Research expenditures now exceed $81 million annually, with the department maintaining a robust portfolio of over $19 million in external funding in 2024. The department currently employs 23 tenure-track faculty and three lecturers, with active searches underway for additional positions.
UNEP features four tenure-track faculty members alongside affiliated faculty from across Engineering, Science, and Medicine. The program maintains strong collaborations with national labs, industry, and international partners. UNEP offers undergraduate minors, M.S., and Ph.D. degrees and operates an NRC-licensed 100 kW Modified Mark I TRIGA Reactor equipped with state-of-the-art controls and facilities. Research spans nuclear energy, advanced reactor designs, nuclear safety, fuel cycles, nuclear medicine, and advanced modeling and simulation. Faculty have access to premier university research facilities, including the Nanofab materials characterization center.
We welcome applicants in all areas of nuclear engineering research, with a specific emphasis on thermal-hydraulics, nuclear fuel cycles for conventional and advanced energy systems, and nuclear fusion science and technology. Candidates with strong fundamental skills and an interest in multidisciplinary collaboration are especially encouraged. This role offers the opportunity to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels within an R1 research institution.
