About LaGuardia Community College

Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is a vibrant hub within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. As one of seven community colleges in the city, we serve approximately 24,000 students annually through over sixty associate degree programs and fifty workforce training initiatives. Our campus is a global crossroads: more than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside the United States, hailing from 136 countries and speaking 43 heritage languages. Sixty percent are first-generation college students, and virtually all are ethnic minorities.

LaGuardia is a recognized engine of economic mobility, ranking fifth among U.S. community colleges for moving low-income students into the middle class. Our mission is to empower a diverse student body to either transfer to four-year institutions to complete their baccalaureate degrees or enter the workforce with specialized skills in fields like Nursing, Computer Technology, and Veterinary Technology.

About the Role

The Humanities Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to join our Film & Television program in Fall 2026. This role is designed for a scholar-practitioner who can bridge the gap between critical analysis and creative production. You will teach a core curriculum of film history and theory while contributing to practice-based courses in screenwriting and video production.

Reporting to the Chair of the Humanities Department, you will teach 24 contact hours per academic year. Your day-to-day will involve facilitating dynamic classroom discussions on cinema, mentoring students in the Film & TV lab, and collaborating with staff to utilize production facilities. Beyond the classroom, you will contribute to curriculum assessment, support experiential learning and internships, and engage in departmental service. We are looking for someone committed to mentoring a diverse, urban student population and capable of teaching both introductory video production and advanced film studies.

Hiring Process

To apply, please visit the CUNY employment page at www.cuny.edu. Create a user account or log in, then search for this vacancy using Job ID 32099 or the title "Assistant Professor - Film and Television."
