Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is a vibrant hub within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. As one of seven community colleges in the city, we serve approximately 24,000 students annually through over sixty associate degree programs and fifty workforce training initiatives. Our campus is a global crossroads: more than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside the United States, hailing from 136 countries and speaking 43 heritage languages. Sixty percent are first-generation college students, and virtually all are ethnic minorities.
LaGuardia is a recognized engine of economic mobility, ranking fifth among U.S. community colleges for moving low-income students into the middle class. Our mission is to empower a diverse student body to either transfer to four-year institutions to complete their baccalaureate degrees or enter the workforce with specialized skills in fields like Nursing, Computer Technology, and Veterinary Technology.
