About the Team

The Office of Student Financial Services (SFS) operates within a collaborative and diverse environment dedicated to supporting students and families throughout their financial aid journey. Guided by Alvernia's Franciscan values, the team models compassionate service and ethical leadership to foster a welcoming community. The office prioritizes transparency, accessibility, and proactive communication, ensuring that all interactions uphold the highest standards of integrity and inclusivity.

About the Role

The Assistant Director serves as a vital link between the university's financial aid systems and the students they serve. This role is designed to maintain a comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and institutional regulations while providing high-quality counseling to prospective and current students. You will partner closely with the Director, SFS staff, and various campus departments—including Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate and Adult Education, and Residence Life—to ensure accurate guidance on eligibility, verification, and financing options.

In this position, you will act as a positive ambassador for the university, representing the organization at recruitment events and community outreach programs. The role requires a holistic approach to counseling, supporting traditional, graduate, and adult learners with a focus on financial wellness and literacy. You will also serve as the institutional VA Certifying Official, managing specialized processes for veteran and military-connected students, and ensuring compliance with complex Title IV and state grant regulations.

Hiring Process

Candidates selected for an interview will be invited to participate in a series of discussions designed to assess both technical expertise and cultural fit. The process typically includes:

  1. Initial Screening: A conversation with the hiring team to review qualifications and experience.
  2. In-Depth Interview: A detailed discussion regarding regulatory knowledge, leadership style, and scenario-based problem solving.
  3. Team Interaction: Opportunities to meet with current SFS staff and leadership to discuss team dynamics and mission alignment.
  4. Final Review: Selection and offer extension.

Equal Opportunity & Culture

Alvernia University is committed to creating an inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status. We value the unique perspectives that individuals bring to our community and strive to model the Franciscan values of respect and service in all our operations.
