The Assistant Director, JHU Research Administration serves as a key leadership figure within Johns Hopkins Research Administration and Sponsored Programs (RASP). Reporting to the Associate Vice Provost and Directors, this role is pivotal in overseeing the daily management, training, and operational effectiveness of grants and contracts associates and senior specialists.
This position acts as a strategic resource for faculty and staff, guiding them through the complexities of sponsored projects administration. The Assistant Director independently reviews, negotiates, and signs grant and contract proposals, awards, and related documents within delegated authority. A core function of the role is to ensure strict compliance with university policy, sponsor requirements, and applicable regulations while fostering a culture of high-quality service across the University.
In partnership with the RASP Director, the Assistant Director drives continuous quality improvement initiatives, ensuring alignment with regulatory and accreditation standards. This involves managing data collection, tracking performance metrics, and developing standard operating procedures. The role also requires serving as a vital liaison to funding agencies, internal stakeholders, and central offices, resolving complex issues and negotiating favorable terms and conditions with domestic and foreign sponsors.
RASP is dedicated to supporting the University's research enterprise by providing consistent, high-quality administration services. The mission of this leadership role is to elevate customer service, promote process improvement, and ensure the seamless integration of the office with the University's award compliance, information technology, and post-award budget functions. By fostering cross-functional collaboration and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of evolving regulations, the team ensures that researchers can focus on their work while remaining compliant with federal and sponsor guidelines.
