Candidates with extensive teaching experience and a strong background in HVAC/R and Environmental Controls are highly encouraged to apply. We value evidence of successfully involving students in practical, industry-relevant applications of instruction. Ideal applicants possess experience working with students from diverse ages, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds, alongside a demonstrated ability to foster professional growth through development and assessment.
Strong oral and written communication skills, coupled with proficient computer literacy, are essential. Professional engagement is further demonstrated through membership in HVAC/R organizations and relevant certifications. These may include EPA Section 608 (Type 1 & 2), California Licensed Contractor (C20/C38), North American Technician Excellence (NATE) in Air Conditioning, Heat Pumps, Gas Furnace, or Air Distribution, and RSES status (CM or CMS). Additional credentials such as RETA, CARO, CIRO, ARI ICE, or ESCO entry-level examinations are also viewed favorably.
We place a high priority on equity-minded educators. Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students is desirable, as is a deep understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion in higher education impact participation and outcomes. Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to examine and remediate their instructional, relational, and classroom practices to better support these students, along with the skill to address equity issues directly in the classroom. A commitment to contributing to institutional vitality and a clear knowledge of the community college's mission and goals are also key.
Applicants must meet one of the following educational and experience criteria:
In addition to educational requirements, all applicants must hold a valid California driver's license. All candidates must provide evidence of their responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, specifically relating to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.
