About the Role
Under physician supervision, the Physician Assistant and/or Nurse Practitioner assumes primary responsibility within their respective specialty area. This role focuses on managing selected at-risk or complex patients and aggregate patient populations in close collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members. The position requires demonstrating the knowledge, critical thinking, and skills necessary to plan, coordinate, and provide continuous care.
Predominantly an outpatient practice, this role spends 20% or less of its time in the inpatient setting. As an agent of the supervising physician, the clinician performs medical services delegated within their scope of practice, including assessing, diagnosing, treating, and managing patient healthcare needs. The role involves applying clinical interventions, evaluating outcomes, and implementing changes to the plan of care while anticipating and communicating changes in patient status.
The position may involve sharing in practice call requirements and performing procedures, including providing first assist coverage. There is no operating room or emergency department/unassigned call requirement. The clinician is expected to respond appropriately to emergency situations based on individual patient needs, recognize physical, developmental, and psychosocial distress in patients and families, and provide appropriate interventions.
