Accountant III - Revenue Analysis

About the Role

The Accountant III serves as a key contributor to the financial statement close and consolidation process, operating on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. This role is designed to ensure the integrity of financial reporting by creating appropriate entries and schedules while actively identifying and resolving complex accounting issues. The position requires seamless collaboration across all locations and departments, serving as a vital interface for personnel at all levels regarding accounting matters.

In this capacity, you will provide critical assurance on preneed sales accounting, including deferred revenue and trust investments, as well as insurance sales accounting and commissions. A significant portion of the role involves analyzing production entries, sales trends, and cemetery case volumes to ensure proper revenue recognition. You will also support the team in brainstorming new revenue sources and their accounting implications, performing cost-versus-revenue analyses, and calculating cancellation reserves and bad debt allowances.

Beyond daily accounting tasks, the Accountant III plays an active role in auditing and compliance. Responsibilities include verifying income statements, validating source systems for revenues and costs of sales, and assisting in the coordination of internal and external audits. The role also involves suggesting and implementing new controls or procedures to enhance financial accuracy and efficiency.

Work Environment

This position is based in Houston, TX. The role requires flexibility to work beyond standard hours during month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes, as well as during additional special projects.
