The Accountant II serves as a vital support pillar within the City of La Marque's finance department, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of municipal financial operations. This position acts as a key backup for the Accountant I, stepping in to manage full-scale payroll processing and indirect supervision of accounts payable staff when needed. The role is designed for a professional who thrives in a structured environment and is prepared to handle complex reconciliations, reporting, and compliance duties that keep the city's financial health stable.

Day in the Life

Your work will span a wide array of accounting functions, from editing journal entries and managing fixed assets to assisting with capital projects and purchasing functions. A significant portion of the role involves ensuring fiscal compliance through the preparation of quarterly and annual filings, including 941s, 945s, and various state comptroller payments such as sales tax and child safety fees. You will also coordinate closely with auditors to complete the city's annual audits and assist with grants administration and EDC financial reports.

In addition to core accounting tasks, this role requires flexibility and readiness for emergency situations. As a Tier 1 Emergency Operation Classification employee, you may be required to remain on-site or at a designated location during emergencies to maintain critical financial operations. The position also involves delivering cash deposits to the bank during the City Marshal's absence and ensuring all activities adhere strictly to city policies, including safety protocols and appropriate attire standards.
