ATA Services is seeking an experienced Accountant I to join our team for a temporary assignment in Albuquerque. This role serves as a critical entry-level professional position, providing essential accounting support to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the city's financial operations.
You will be the backbone of our financial reporting efforts, tasked with posting data to various ledgers, registers, journals, and logs. Your work will directly contribute to the preparation of the Annual Financial Report, requiring you to analyze and review financial transactions with a keen eye for detail. As a key liaison for various departments, you will perform financial analysis for specific programs, maintain accurate fiscal records, and prepare monthly and special reports that track the progress of assigned funds.
The day-to-day rhythm of this role involves a blend of technical accounting and collaborative problem-solving. You will reconcile and audit ledgers, respond to inquiries from independent auditors, and provide technical assistance to staff regarding financial accounting and budgeting. Additionally, you will manage administrative financial tasks, such as processing checks, handling employee travel reimbursements, and monitoring payroll functions. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in governmental accounting while working in a dynamic, in-office environment.

Knowledge of basic principles and practices of fiscal record-keeping and reporting, basic principles and techniques of accounting, advanced principles of business mathematics, basic governmental accounting principles, modern office methods, procedures and computer equipment, basic methods and techniques of research and analysis, principles and procedures of financial record-keeping and reporting, and methods and techniques of cash handling. Ability to maintain financial records and files, accurately tabulate, record, and balance assigned transactions, operate computerized equipment including various software and mainframe programs, learn the operations of a fixed-asset program, prepare clear and concise financial reports, and communicate clearly and concisely.
