City Year is an AmeriCorps program dedicated to helping students across schools succeed. Our teams of AmeriCorps members provide comprehensive support to students, classrooms, and the entire school community. Our mission is to ensure that students receive a high-quality education that equips them with the skills and mindset necessary to thrive and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
As a Student Success Coach and Mentor, you will serve as a City Year AmeriCorps Member, focusing on coaching and mentoring elementary, middle, and/or high school students. This role is designed to help students achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors at school.
You will plan and monitor individual student progress while collaborating closely with teachers on whole-class instruction, breakout spaces, and in-class student assistance. While experience in these specific tasks is not required, you will receive 2-4 weeks of training at the beginning of the year to prepare you for service. Throughout your term, you will work alongside partner teachers and school staff every step of the way.
Your day-to-day impact will involve supporting academic coaching and interpersonal development through 1:1 and small group interactions. You will help students develop literacy and math skills, create behavior management systems, and foster interpersonal growth using proven strategies of learning, practice, reflection, and repetition. Additionally, you will support whole-school initiatives by conducting extended day and virtual programming, including academic enrichment, homework support, recreation, and leadership development.
