City Year is an AmeriCorps program dedicated to helping students across schools succeed. Our teams of AmeriCorps members provide comprehensive support to students, classrooms, and the entire school community. Our mission is to ensure that students receive a high-quality education that equips them with the necessary skills and mindset to thrive and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
As a City Year AmeriCorps Member, you will serve as a student success coach and mentor for elementary, middle, and/or high school students. This entry-level, paid, full-time position focuses on helping students achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors at school.
You will work closely with partner teachers and school staff to plan and monitor individual student progress. Your day will involve coaching students one-on-one and in small groups, developing literacy and math skills tailored to their levels, and creating engaging, safe, and healthy classroom environments. You will also support whole-school initiatives by leading extended day and virtual programming, including academic enrichment, homework support, recreation, and leadership development.
No prior experience in these specific tasks is required. City Year provides 2-4 weeks of training at the beginning of the year to prepare you for service, and you will receive ongoing support from teachers and staff throughout your term.
