City Year is an AmeriCorps program dedicated to helping students across schools succeed. Our teams of AmeriCorps members provide comprehensive support to students, classrooms, and the whole school environment. Our mission is to ensure that students receive a high-quality education that prepares them with the skills and mindset to thrive and contribute to their communities.
As a Student Success Coach and Mentor, your service will focus on coaching and mentoring elementary, middle, and/or high school students. You will partner with teachers and school staff to help students earn academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors. This role is designed for those who want to build themselves, give back, and are ready to change the world.
You will work with identified students one-on-one and in small groups, developing literacy and math skills while encouraging assignment completion. You will also create and implement behavior management systems and foster interpersonal skills through proven strategies of learning, practice, reflection, and repetition. Beyond the classroom, you will support whole-school initiatives by conducting extended day and virtual programming, including academic enrichment, homework support, recreation, and leadership development.
Experience in these specific tasks is not required. We provide 2-4 weeks of training at the beginning of the year to support you, and you will work with partner teachers every step of the way.
To apply, visit our website and submit your completed application online. For more information on the application process or the role itself, please visit our official website.
City Year AmeriCorps members are as varied as the communities we serve. We are committed to diversity and inclusion. We are looking for U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents (ages 17-25 by July 1, 2025) who have a GED, high school diploma, some college experience, or a college degree. Please note that those with DACA status are not eligible at this time.
