City Year is an AmeriCorps program dedicated to helping students across schools succeed. Our teams of AmeriCorps members provide comprehensive support to students, classrooms, and the entire school community. Our mission is to ensure that students receive a high-quality education that prepares them with the skills and mindset to thrive and contribute to their community.
As a Student Success Coach and Mentor, you will serve as a City Year AmeriCorps Member, focusing on coaching and mentoring elementary, middle, and/or high school students. Your service is designed to help students earn academic success, improve their attendance, and develop positive behaviors at school.
You will plan and monitor individual student progress while working closely with teachers on whole-class instruction, breakout spaces, and other in-class student assistance. While experience in these tasks is not required, you will receive 2-4 weeks of training at the beginning of the year to support your journey. Throughout your service, you will collaborate with partner teachers and school staff every step of the way.
Beyond individual student support, you will contribute to whole-school initiatives to increase engagement with students and families. This includes supporting extended day and virtual programming before, during, and after school, such as academic enrichment, homework support, recreation, and leadership development. You will also help create and co-lead events that recognize student growth and achievement.
