About City Year

City Year is an AmeriCorps program dedicated to helping students across schools succeed. Our teams of AmeriCorps members provide support to students, classrooms, and the whole school, ensuring that students receive a high-quality education that prepares them with the skills and mindset to thrive and contribute to their community.

About the Role

As a City Year AmeriCorps Member, you will serve as a student success coach and mentor for elementary, middle, and/or high school students. Your mission is to help students earn academic success, improve their attendance, and develop positive behaviors at school. You will plan and monitor individual student progress while working closely with teachers on whole-class instruction, breakout spaces, and in-class student assistance.

You do not need prior experience in these tasks. We provide 2–4 weeks of training at the beginning of the year to support you, and you will work with partner teachers and school staff every step of the way. Your day will involve coaching students one-on-one and in small groups, developing literacy and math skills through varied learning activities, and creating engaging, safe, and healthy classroom spaces. Additionally, you will support whole-school initiatives by conducting extended day and virtual programming, including academic enrichment, homework support, recreation, and leadership development.
