About the Role
As a Yellow Iron Diesel Mechanic, you will be the backbone of our fleet operations, performing inspection, diagnosis, preventative maintenance, and repairs on electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems. Your primary focus will be on yellow iron machinery, diesel heavy trucks, and engines.
This role goes beyond standard repair duties; you must possess the ability to operate the machinery you are repairing to effectively diagnose issues. You will collaborate closely with other mechanics on different shifts and assist Senior Technicians with project work. At times, you may be on call to assist with emergency breakdowns, ensuring our operations remain uninterrupted.
Work Environment
This position involves a potentially hazardous environment with moving parts and heavy machinery, requiring constant alertness. While the work area is generally safe, you may be required to enter transfer station loading or dumping areas during breakdowns. The role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with frequent squatting and standing.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleDiagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment including yellow iron machinery and diesel trucks
- check_circlePerform repairs and assigned preventative maintenance services on vehicles and equipment
- check_circleComplete required paperwork using fleet maintenance software to document part usage and repair time
- check_circleReview and assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports
- check_circleOperate machinery being repaired and assist with emergency breakdowns when on call
- check_circleEstimate time and material costs for vehicle repairs and requisition new parts
- check_circleConduct safety checks on vehicles and maintain a clean work area compliant with OSHA standards

Requirements
- verifiedAt least 18 years of age
- verifiedLegally eligible to work in the United States
- verifiedValid driver's license
- verifiedAt least 5 years of experience in job duties
- verifiedExperience with troubleshooting/repairing DPF systems diagnostic software
- verifiedWorking knowledge of applicable DOT and OSHA standards and regulations
- verifiedAbility to speak and read English
- verifiedMust be able to provide own tools
Nice to Have
Valid CDL, Sanitation or construction industry experience, Computer diagnostic experience as diesel technician.
