Music Kids exists to enrich and improve student development by bringing musical instrument education programs into the local school environment. To date, the organization has taught thousands of students at over 90 active partner schools throughout DC, MD, VA, IL, MO, MA, NY, CT, CA, PA, and WA.
We are looking for enthusiastic and open-minded educators to join our team for the 2024-2025 school year. This role is designed for two types of candidates: music teachers who want to expand their horizons into early childhood education, and classroom teachers who want to pivot their careers back into music.
As a Music Kids Faculty Member, you will teach beginning-level violin, piano, and guitar in small group classes (usually 2-4 students) and some individual lessons on-site at our local partner schools. While the ability to teach violin and guitar/piano is strongly preferred, it is not required to apply; we have a particular need for violin teachers but are accepting applicants for all three instruments. Curriculum resources and assistance are available to help you learn the basics of beginner-level teaching for all three instruments.
The position involves a blend of in-school teaching and out-of-school program management. Your day will include leading student performances, managing student records, providing meaningful learning updates to parents, and supporting students virtually. You will also play a key role in promoting the program and driving enrollment at partner school events, particularly during registration in August and September. The role requires flexibility and creativity to take parents and students "where they're at" in terms of interest and commitment.
Applicants must reside in and be legally qualified to work in the United States and must submit to customary background checks. We are hiring for positions that typically run for 10 months (mid-August to mid-June), with opportunities to extend employment for the additional two summer months. Please note that scheduling availability on several weekdays during after-school hours (2pm-6pm) is required, along with additional availability for office hours during the week.
Music Kids is passionate about having a direct impact on the primary education system in this country. We value faculty who take initiative, are confident working independently to represent the organization, and are comfortable collaborating with office staff on administrative and professional development functions. We offer a supportive environment where you can grow your skills, with opportunities for professional development through collaboration with senior resident Faculty Members and staff.

Music Kids operates within the music education industry, delivering instrument learning programs directly into local school environments. The organization focuses on early childhood development, specifically targeting students between the ages of three and seven. Its primary mission is to integrate musical instrument study as a fundamental component of the academic experience for young learners.
Research supports the company's approach, indicating that introducing instruments during these formative years significantly influences brain development, verbal ability, and mathematical reasoning. The curriculum utilizes a Suzuki-inspired methodology designed to nurture creativity and analytical skills in toddlers. By unlocking expressive potential, the program aims to boost self-esteem and mood alongside academic growth.
The company operates on the philosophy that exposure to beauty is a human necessity rather than a luxury. Success in their model relies on technical excellence paired with the ability of instructors to cultivate a genuine love for music. This approach ensures that students receive a holistic education that values emotional and intellectual development through the study of musical instruments.
