Music Kids exists to enrich and improve student development by bringing musical instrument education programs into the local school environment. To date, the organization has taught thousands of students at over 90 active partner schools throughout DC, MD, VA, IL, MO, MA, NY, CT, CA, PA, and WA.
We are looking for enthusiastic and open-minded educators to join our team for the 2024-2025 school year to teach beginning level violin, piano, and guitar. This role is designed for two types of candidates: music teachers who want to expand their horizons into early childhood education, and classroom teachers who want to pivot their careers back into music.
As a Music Kids Faculty Member, you will teach small group classes (usually between 2-4 students) and some individual lessons on-site at our local partner schools. The position involves a blend of in-school teaching and student performances, alongside out-of-school responsibilities such as parent communication, lesson planning, scheduling, progress reporting, and supplementary virtual learning. You will also play a key role in promoting the program and driving enrollment at partner school events, particularly during registration in August and September.
While the ability to teach violin and guitar/piano is strongly preferred, it is not required to apply. We have a particular need for violin teachers, but we are accepting applicants for piano and guitar as well. Curriculum resources and assistance are available to help you learn the basics for beginner-level teaching of all three instruments.
You are passionate about having a direct impact on the primary education system and are comfortable working with a wide range of student age groups, especially beginning level students (including 3-5 year olds). You possess an open mind and the flexibility to be creative in your teaching style, meeting parents and students where they are in terms of interest and commitment. You are confident working independently to represent the organization while also collaborating closely with office staff on administrative and professional development functions.
Applicants must reside in and be legally qualified to work in the United States and must submit to customary background checks. We invite you to apply if you are ready to take the initiative and represent our mission in your local community.
