Music Kids exists to enrich and improve student development by bringing musical instrument education programs into the local school environment. To date, the organization has taught thousands of students at over 90 active partner schools throughout DC, MD, VA, IL, MO, MA, NY, CT, CA, PA, and WA.
We are looking for enthusiastic and open-minded educators to join our team for the 2024-2025 school year. This role is designed for two types of candidates: music teachers who want to expand their horizons into early childhood education, and classroom teachers who want to pivot their careers back into music.
As a Music Kids Faculty Member, you will teach beginning-level violin, piano, and guitar in small group classes (typically 2-4 students) and some individual lessons on-site at our local partner schools. While the ability to teach violin and guitar/piano is strongly preferred, it is not required to apply. We have a particular need for violin teachers, but we are accepting applicants for piano and guitar as well. Curriculum resources and assistance are available to help you learn the basics for beginner-level teaching of all three instruments.
The position involves a blend of in-school teaching and out-of-school program management. Your day will include teaching and student performances, parent communication, lesson planning, scheduling, progress reporting, and supplementary virtual learning. You will also play a key role in promoting the program and driving enrollment at partner school events, particularly during registration in August and September. The role offers opportunities to extend employment for the additional two summer months and participate in professional development through collaboration with senior resident faculty members and staff.
Applicants must reside in and be legally qualified to work in the United States and must submit to customary background checks. We are seeking individuals who are reliable, organized, and possess friendly verbal and written communication skills.
We value educators who are passionate about having a direct impact on the primary education system. We look for candidates who are comfortable teaching students in small groups, flexible and creative in their teaching style, and confident working independently to represent the organization. We support a collaborative environment where you can work closely with office staff in administrative and professional development functions.
