About the Role
This Registered Nurse (RN) position is located at the Norfolk City Jail in Norfolk, VA. The role is designed for those ready to take on a position that will enrich their career and make a real impact on the community. You will provide direct patient care in a correctional setting, collaborating with healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans while ensuring compliance with facility policies, state regulations, and infection control standards. The position involves educating patients on health conditions, monitoring their progress, and contributing to a safe and effective healthcare environment. You will work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the facility's healthcare needs.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleProvide direct patient care including assessments, medication administration, and treatments
- check_circleConduct initial medical screenings and comprehensive physical assessments for incoming inmates
- check_circleDocument patient assessments, treatments, and progress accurately in the electronic medical record
- check_circleCollaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans
- check_circleSupervise and assist LPNs and nursing assistants in patient care tasks and protocols
- check_circleServe as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing staff on clinical practices and emergency response
- check_circleEnsure medical equipment and supplies are stocked, maintained, and functioning properly
- check_circleRespond to and manage medical emergencies, trauma, and acute health crises
Requirements
- verifiedCurrent, valid state licensure, certificate, or credentials (e.g., RN, LPN)
- verifiedHigh School diploma or GED
- verified1-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting
Nice to Have
An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Nursing, or a related field. 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a correctional healthcare or similar environment. Experience in roles that involve direct patient care or administrative support in a regulated environment. Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to the correctional setting.
