The Registered Nurse (RN) at the Norfolk City Jail will provide direct patient care in a correctional setting, enriching your career while making a real impact on the community. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans according to established policies. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including physicians, mental health professionals, and correctional officers, to ensure comprehensive care for inmates with chronic conditions, acute illnesses, and mental health issues.
In this position, you will conduct initial medical screenings for incoming inmates, administer prescribed medications and treatments, and respond to medical emergencies, including trauma and crises. You will also serve as a clinical resource and mentor to other nursing staff, supervising LPNs and nursing assistants to ensure compliance with healthcare standards. The role requires working flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the facility's healthcare needs.

An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Nursing, or a related field. 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a correctional healthcare or similar environment. Experience in roles that involve direct patient care or administrative support in a regulated environment. Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to the correctional setting.
