We are seeking an experienced Deck System Advanced Training Specialist to lead the Delivery of the Deck-Self Assessment Groom Training (D-SAGT) program. This position is critical for enhancing the operational effectiveness of shipboard deck systems through comprehensive, on-site training and ongoing technical support.
In this role, you will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), bridging the gap between technical documentation and shipboard execution. Your day-to-day involves conducting In-Brief and Out-Brief sessions, delivering classroom instruction on pre-selected deck systems, and guiding the Ship's Force in documenting abnormalities via mentored Self-Assessment Groom Checklists. Beyond the classroom, you will provide tailored technical resources, including manuals and ship drawings, and generate End of Mission Reports to ensure continuous improvement in maintenance and readiness.
The role extends beyond initial training delivery. You will be responsible for sustaining the D-SAGT curriculum, facilitating "Train the Trainer" events, and conducting formal lifecycle reviews of course materials. You will also analyze deck system data for trends, develop Manpower, Personnel, and Training (MPT) impact statements, and offer technical reach-back services to surface ships between execution events.
Candidates must demonstrate a robust background in naval deck operations. The selection process prioritizes applicants with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the Deck Department afloat, with specific preference for those who have served on Amphibious Class Ships. Successful candidates will have held key leadership roles such as 1st LT, Ship's BOSN, or Deck LCPO on Amphibious vessels, alongside experience in Joint Fleet Maintenance practices.
Relevant assignments are a key differentiator. We look for individuals who have completed at least one tour of duty in roles such as Afloat Training Group Instructor, Naval Beach Group, Navy Safety Center Deck Systems Analyst, or Deck INSURV Assessor. Possession of NEC 9502 is preferred.
We value precision, leadership, and the continuous professional development of our Sailors. This role offers the opportunity to shape the training standards for deck systems across the fleet, ensuring that every ship is equipped with the knowledge and resources to maintain peak operational readiness.
