Traffic Manager

About the Role

This position serves as the full Deputy to the Distribution Center's Traffic Manager within the DLA Distribution. The role is central to managing the transportation and traffic program, ensuring the efficient movement of freight and materials across the facility.

As a technical authority on transportation operations, you will interpret higher-level guidance and ensure that policies and procedures are correctly executed by subordinate staff. The position requires directing employees in key areas such as freight consolidation, terminal operations, transportation logistics, and material movement activities.

Team Context

You will act as a critical liaison, collaborating with other Distribution Centers, foreign government representatives, various military services and agencies, and commercial freight forwarders. A primary focus of this work is resolving complex problems related to the transportation of material, ensuring seamless operations across a broad network.

Application Instructions

To qualify for this position, your resume and supporting documentation must demonstrate one year of specialized experience directly related to the duties of the role. This experience may be gained in the Federal service, military, or private sector and must be equivalent to the GS-09 level for GS-10 eligibility.

Qualifying experience includes managing or participating in transportation programs involving the operation of transport systems, providing common carrier services, or procuring transportation services for personnel and commodities. Additional relevant experience includes conducting traffic management studies, making presentations to regulatory bodies, performing loss and damage prevention work, and negotiating rates or classifications with carriers.

Credit is given for both paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other community or professional organizations. All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, will be considered toward meeting the minimum qualifications.
